On Friday, December 29th at 4 a.m. CSFD was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 2120 Naegele Rd.

As CSFD Engine 5 was responding they could see fire and smoke showing and immediately called a working fire. Engine 5 arrived at 4:07 a.m. at a commercial building with heavy fire showing. Crews could also hear explosions likely coming from the cars inside the structure.

A second alarm was called for additional resources. The fire was deemed under control at 4:49 a.m. A total of 52 CSFD personnel responded to the scene. There were no civilians injured, one firefighter received a minor burn and was treated on scene.

CSFD Investigators responded to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The fire started outside of the building and extended inside the structure causing extensive damage to the building and its contents.

It has been determined that the cause of this fire was an unlawful burn from a fire outside of the building.

In coordination with our partners at the Colorado Springs Police Department, CSFD investigators and CSPD patrol officers developed information to identify a suspect. Suspect information can be found on the CSPD blotter.

We’d like to thank our partners at the CSPD for their dedication and hard work on this fire along with their collaboration with CSFD investigators.
