On Sunday, December 17, 2023, at approximately 8:48 PM, The Colorado Springs Police Department responded to an assault in the parking lot near 400 West Fillmore Street. Officers discovered an employee of a nearby business had confronted a theft suspect and was struck by the suspect’s vehicle. The employee was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide Unit assumed the investigation.
On Thursday, December 21, 2023, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Scotty Ranzel Johnson, for the charges of 18-3-102 Attempted Murder in the First Degree, a class two felony, and 18-4-301 Robbery, a class four felony. On Friday, December 22, 2023, the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the Colorado Springs Police Department Tactical Enforcement Unit, took Scotty Johnson into custody for his warrant.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Devin Davidson of Colorado Springs. He is not expected to survive his injuries. No booking photo of Mr. Johnson is available at this time.
