On October 2, 2022, at approximately 9:54 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call for service of a shooting in the 4200 block of Galley Road. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male deceased on the scene. Detectives from the CSPD homicide unit responded and assumed the investigation.
On October 4, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and identified the deceased victim as 45-year-old Antonio Jiminez-Garibay. CSPD began investigating Mr. Garibay’s death as a homicide.
In April of 2024, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Murder in the 1st Degree for 36-year-old Claudio Montijo Avila.
On January 4, 2026, Mr. Avila was arrested by Colorado State Patrol near Trinidad, Colorado. Mr. Avila has since been booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. A booking photo of Mr. Avila is provided below.
