UPDATE:
On Monday, July 17th, 2023, Detectives with the Homicide Unit secured an arrest warrant for 51-year-old Gilbert Lopez Jr., charging him with First Degree Murder, directly related to the homicide investigation which began on June 23, 2023, in the 1500 block of Boulder St. Mr. Lopez was already in custody at the El Paso County Jail for outstanding warrants and other unrelated criminal charges.

On Monday, June 26, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased female, identified as 48-year-old Nancy Mascarenas, from Clovis, New Mexico. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, it is being investigated as a homicide.
This is the 13th homicide in the City of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 26 homicides investigated. A photo of the victim was provided by the family.

On 06/23/23 at approximately 0307 hours Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were notified of shots fired in the area of 1500 E Boulder St. Officers responded to the area and found a deceased adult female with a possible gunshot wound. Detectives from the homicide unit responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made.
