Over the past several months Liberty High School has been the target of social media attacks, direct and indirect toward the student population, school, and individual students. This has resulted in an unsettled atmosphere at the school which was placed into a “Secure” status multiple times resulting in numerous threat assessments and emotional impact on students and faculty.

As the threats were received, the CSPD School Resource Officer Unit initiated investigations into each one. As these investigations continued, it was determined that the threats were likely coming from one individual.

On Friday, September 15, 2023, officers assigned to the School Resource Officer Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in northeast Colorado Springs related to the ongoing investigation of school threats and planned attacks at an Academy District 20 High School.

The investigation was conducted in conjunction with security personnel from ASD20, CSPD Metro Intelligence, and the FBI. During the warrant execution, officers obtained evidence supporting the arrest of one juvenile male suspect for the online activity.

The juvenile was arrested for felony Incitement of death or destruction, and Misdemeanor Interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions.

This is still an active investigation and anyone with information or who is a witness to this investigation is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
