The motorcycle rider has been identified as Colorado Springs resident Maxwell Johnson. Johnson was 22 years old. This is the fourteenth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2023. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had six fatal traffic crashes. In the past 365 days, there have been 64 traffic deaths in Colorado Springs. This is still an ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.  Alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor, but we are still investigating the possibility of speed playing a role in the crash.
