On Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2:12 p.m., Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Gold Hill Division, were dispatched to the intersection of Platte Avenue and N. Nevada Avenue regarding a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. During the investigation, the motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital, where he died due to his injuries from the accident. On Monday, April 3, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased motorcycle rider. The motorcycle rider has been identified as 67-year-old Colorado Springs resident Isadore Michael Romero. The investigation has determined that neither speed nor alcohol is a factor in this crash. This is the sixteenth fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had six traffic fatalities. In the past 365 days, Colorado Springs has had 66 fatal traffic crashes. There have been no arrests made at this time.

On 04/02/23 at 1412 hours, CSPD was notified of a vehicle versus motorcycle crash at the intersection of N. Nevada Ave. and E. Platte Ave. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and immediately transported the motorcycle rider to a nearby hospital. The vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Platte Ave. attempting to turn left onto southbound N. Nevada Ave. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on E. Platte Ave. attempting to continue through the intersection eastbound from N. Nevada Ave. The vehicle turned left in front of the William Palmer statue, and the motorcycle collided with this vehicle as it was attempting to turn. The motorcycle rider later died at the hospital as a result of this crash. Based on this information the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The intersection of E. Platte Ave. and N. Nevada Ave. was closed for several hours while investigators completed their work. Neither impairment nor speed appears to be contributing factors at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
