On Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 7:12 AM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the area of East Woodmen Road and Marksheffel Road regarding a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a truck.

Upon arrival, officers found the truck and motorcycle were eastbound on Woodmen Road and the truck was stopped for traffic. The motorcycle rear-ended the truck.

The motorcycle rider was transported from the scene with serious life-threatening injuries. Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team was contacted and responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Currently, speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this investigation.

After the initial investigation, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team was notified that the motorcycle rider involved in the crash had succumbed to his injuries. The motorcycle rider was identified as a juvenile male; we will not be releasing further identifying information.

This is the 37th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had 45 fatal traffic crashes. In the past 365 days, there have been 48 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
