On Saturday, December 23, 2023, 33-year-old Devin Davidson succumbed to his injuries suffered on December 17, 2023, after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of West Fillmore Street.
This is the 32nd homicide in 2023. At this time last year, CSPD investigated 54 homicides.

On Sunday, December 17, 2023, at approximately 8:48 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to an assault in the parking lot near 400 West Fillmore Street. Officers discovered an employee of a nearby business had confronted a theft suspect and was struck by the suspect’s vehicle. The employee was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide Unit assumed the investigation.
On Thursday, December 21, 2023, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Scotty Ranzel Johnson, for the charges of 18-3-102 Attempted Murder in the First Degree, a class two felony, and 18-4-301 Robbery, a class four felony. On Friday, December 22, 2023, the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the Colorado Springs Police Department Tactical Enforcement Unit, took Scotty Johnson into custody for his warrant.
