On Monday, March 6, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the one of the deceased adults, who has been identified as 20-year-old Payshas Whatley, a resident of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death, Ms. Whatley’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Also on Monday, March 6, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the second deceased adult, who has been identified as 22-year-old Enrique Palomera, a resident of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death, Mr. Palomera’ s death is being investigated as a suicide.
Mr. Palomera and Ms. Whately had been dating at the time of this homicide. There is no threat to the public and officers are not looking for any other suspects.
This is the 3rd homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year there were 13 homicides investigated.

On March 4th, 2023, at approximately 4:45PM, CSPD officers responded to the 1600 block of Gatehouse Circle to investigate reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers discovered two deceased adults. The CSPD Homicide Unit responded and continued the investigation.
