On Monday, August 21st, at approximately 2:48 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 900 block of N. 19th St. Upon arrival officers located a deceased adult male on the scene. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Homicide Unit responded to continue the investigation.
On August 22, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased male, identified as 32-year-old Gabriel Villanueba, from Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, it is being investigated as a homicide. No arrests have been made.
This is the 20th homicide in the City of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 32 homicides investigated.
