On October 20, 2023, at approximately 7:24 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash in the 1200 block of South Tejon Street. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and determined the pedestrian was deceased. The investigation revealed a vehicle was exiting southbound I-25 at the Tejon Exit. A pedestrian was walking northbound, crossing the street.
The vehicle hit the pedestrian and continued southbound on Tejon Street, fleeing the scene. Based on this information, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
On October 21, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Officer conducted an autopsy on the deceased pedestrian and identified him as Willie Pilcher, a 62-year-old resident of Colorado Springs.
This is the 43rd traffic fatality this year in Colorado Springs. At this time last year, there were 45 traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 54 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
