On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at approximately 12:49 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service for a shooting that occurred in the 3900 block of North Academy Boulevard. Officers responded and found a deceased male who had at least one gunshot wound. The CSPD Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, The El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased male. He was identified as 32-year-old Jacob Morfenski (also known as Jacob Peter) of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, Mr. Morfenski’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

This is the 1st homicide in the City of Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there was also one homicide. 

At this time, all parties involved have been identified. There is no known threat to the community.

On January 23, 2024, at approximately 00:49 hours CSPD officers from the Stetson Hills Division were dispatched to the 3900 block of North Academy Boulevard to investigate a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers located one adult male having suffered from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded to the scene and determined the male was deceased. Detectives from the CSPD Homicide Unit were notified and assumed control the investigation. All involved parties are accounted for. It is believed this is an isolated incident and there is no known danger to the community.
