On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a shooting near the intersection of Gunnison St. and S. Circle Dr. They located a deceased male on the scene.
A second male victim arrived at a local hospital and was found to be suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The Colorado Springs Police Department Homicide Unit responded to continue the investigation.
On Monday, September 4, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased male, identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Duque, from Denver, Colorado. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, it is being investigated as a homicide.
No arrests have been made at this time. Mr. Duque’s death is the 21st homicide in 2023. At this time last year, there were 32 homicides.
