City Forestry is removing dozens of mid-sized Siberian elm and black locust trees and thousands of seedlings as part of a project to control invasive species in Monument Valley Park. Native vegetation will naturally grow in once the invasive species are removed.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department will begin improvements on a segment of the Palmer-Mesa Trail on Monday, Aug. 3. The trail segment, located parallel to 30th Street, will be closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to last through the end of September.
