These are popular school programs available during the spring and fall for grades 3 - 6.
Our season starts in September and runs through May.   
Our programs meet 2020 Colorado Academic Standards for Science, Social Science, and Reading/Writing standards for grades 3rd - 6th.

Bones N’ Stones – Archaeology
(4th Grade)

This lesson will help students develop and understanding of the sequence of events and people in Colorado history, and how primary sources help us learn about the past and provoke further inquiry. Students will explore their own “archaeological dig sites” and infer the history of the area from the artifacts they are given while learning how people today affect those primary sources, whether on purpose or by accident.

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Fourth Grade Social Studies 1.1. 

Rocks in a Box – Geology
(3rd – 5th Grade)

This lesson will help students develop observational skills and critical thinking by exploring evidence of climatic change found in rocks and fossils.

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Third Grade Science 1.2, 2.4, 3.1, Fourth Grade Science 3.1, and Fifth Grade Science 3.3.

Skins N’ Skulls – Wildlife Biology
(3rd – 4th Grade)

This lesson will help students develop observational skills. Students will use their observations to better understand different animal adaptations.

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Third Grade Sciences 2.3 and Fourth Grade Sciences 2.1. 

Where Am I? – Wayfinding & Mapping
(3rd – 5th Grade)

This lesson will help students develop spatial understanding and new perspectives and connections with the world. Students will use various geographic tools, maps, and sources to answer questions about the geography of the United States and Colorado.

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Third Grade Social Studies 2.1, Fourth Grade Social Studies 2.1, and Fifth Grade Social Studies 2.1.

Get Fired Up!
(3rd – 6th Grade)

This lesson will emphasize that organisms have diverse life cycles by illustrating how wildfires influence the living components of a forest. Students will explore how wildfires affect the ecosystems they occur in, and the surprising results of repressing them. 

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Third Grade Science 2.1, 3.1, Fourth Grade Science 3.5, Fifth Grade Science 3.5, and Middle School Science 3.5, 2.7, 3.7, 3.10, and 3.11.

What’s in your Watershed?
(4th – 5th Grade)

This lesson will teach students about how living and nonliving systems interact and how humans can impact watersheds.

2020 Colorado Academic Standards: Fourth Grade Science 3.4, Fifth Grade Science 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5.

Wood you Be-Leaf it?
(3rd – 6th Grade)

This lesson will teach students to identify common Colorado tree species by creating a Tree Identification Booklet and discover how these species have successfully adapted to the changing environment. Similar to animals, trees slowly adapt to their environment in a wide variety of ways to promote survival of species. Samples of real trees will be used for this program; please be aware of any plant-related allergies in the classroom and relay any concerns to presenters prior to presentation.
