Current Traffic Impacts

Late Feb.–Late May: New traffic configuration between Astrozon Blvd. and El Morro Road

A new traffic configuration is in place on South Academy Boulevard between Astrozon and El Morro Road near Sand Creek. Drivers can expect lane reductions and traffic shifted to the west, with northbound lanes moving to the inside.

The ramps connecting Hancock Expressway to South Academy Boulevard are closed. Drivers will need to use the signalized intersection to make right-hand turns during construction. Plan for minor delays and watch for signs in the area for updates.

The southbound South Academy Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Milton Proby Parkway is closed to allow crews to perform water and drainage utility upgrades in the area. This closure will be in place approximately until the end of May. Follow posted detour signs. Drivers should slow down in school zones, and drive with care.

Beginning in April, Boychuk Avenue will be reduced to alternating one-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals or flaggers. The bike lane will be closed in this area and bicyclists will need to merge with traffic. This work will last approximately two months and is necessary for prep work for the tie-in of Boychuk Avenue to S. Academy Boulevard. Please be careful when exiting and entering Colorado Car Wash located southwest of Boychuk Avenue. In addition, the Victory Outreach parking lot southeast exit will be closed during this work. View detour map.

Beginning the morning of Monday, April 6, 2026, the McDonald’s driveway at Academy Place Shopping Center (2515 S. Academy Blvd) will be closed from northbound South Academy Boulevard for approximately two weeks (weather dependent). This closure is necessary to excavate a trench approximately 14 feet deep, place watermain pipe, and restore the curb, gutter, and pavement. Businesses at Academy Place Shopping Center remains open and accessible during construction. Customers may access the restaurant via Astrozon Boulevard (right turn only from S. Academy Blvd) or Jet Wing Drive.  View detour map.

Safety tip: Slow down, follow signs, watch for workers and equipment, and allow extra time.
