The South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project plans traffic shifts starting on Sunday night, March 12 between Platte Avenue and Airport Road to the outside lanes.
The shift allows crews to safely perform median removals and construct detour pavement. Concrete barriers will reduce traffic to one lane for approximately five weeks, allowing crews to perform underground utility work. Once they finish the necessary utility work, crews plan to reinstate two lanes of traffic on southbound Academy Boulevard.
In addition, daytime lane closures start on Monday, March 13, between Fountain Boulevard and Jet Wing Drive on the south segment of the project. This allows crews to locate underground utilities and install temporary traffic controls. Travelers should expect delays and alternative routes are advised.
The South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project is a voter-approved, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) A-listed project. The estimated project cost is $59 million.
