SSP America Team Awarded Food & Beverage Contract by Colorado Springs Airport

The COS Airport has annonced a new food and beverage line up. The restaurant development is an important component of the Airport’s Concourse Modernization project focused, in part, on upgrading the terminal to accommodate more passengers and improve the passenger experience. The new lineup includes Brand Line Up, Atrevida Beer Co, Camden food co, Colorado Craft, Drifter’s Hamburgers, Einstein Bros Bagels and Einstein Bros Express, Mi Casa Cantina, Peet’s, Pizzeria Rustica and Street Eats by Chef Brother Luck.

CSFD Fire Chief named State Fire Chief of the Year

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) and the Colorado State Fire Chiefs named Colorado Springs Fire Chief Randy Royal as the DFPC’s 2023 George Mazzotti Fire Chief of the Year for the state. Chief Royal was awarded the honor for his positive contributions to leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, service to the public, and contributions to the Colorado Fire Service as a whole.

Incident Updates

The CSFD responded to two significant fires on Tuesday, October 17th within city limits. The following information is an update on both incidents.

Structure Fire - 628 Yuma St.: Early reports came in of smoke and fire coming from the side of the home. Firefighters worked to knock the fire down and discovered a deceased individual inside the residence. One patient was transported to a local hospital, the other refused transport services. The bulk of the fire was knocked down at 3:30 p.m. A total of 40 CSFD personnel responded to the scene. The cause and origin of the fire will be determined by CSFD Fire Investigators.

Structure Fire - 2547 Weston Rd.: CSFD dispatch received a number of calls for a structure fire at an auto body repair shop. Firefighters worked in a defensive mode due to the possibility of structural damage and roof collapse which could be seen from the CSFD drone. HazMat 14 was requested due to the change in smoke color and the unknown materials inside the body shop. The fire was under control by 6:40 p.m. A total of 73 CSFD personnel responded to the scene.

Public Works repaves 177 lane miles through 2023 2C paving activities

In 2023, the City’s public works operations and maintenance team repaved 177 lane miles, replaced more than 200,000 linear feet of curb and gutter, and installed 354 new pedestrian ramps. 2C funding, a voter-approved sales tax, is the main source for rebuilding and improving the condition of the City's existing roadway infrastructure, which is the largest of any municipality in Colorado. This is the third of five years of the extended 2C program, which was approved by voters in 2019 at a sales tax rate of 0.57 percent (or 5.7 pennies on a $10 purchase). 2C was first approved by voters in 2015. 

New 2024 Discover COS calendar highlights natural beauty of Colorado Springs, on sale now

The 2024 Discover COS calendar features the best photos from the winners of the 11th annual Discover COS photo contest. These year’s theme is “Celebrate the Seasons”. Calendars are only available for sale at ShopCOS.org, while supplies last. All proceeds will go directly to the Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) program, a City sales tax program dedicated to the protection and preservation of trails, open spaces, and parks. 

City Council seeks volunteers to serve on Mayor’s Strategic Plan Development Work Group

The City Council for the City of Colorado Springs is seeking nine volunteers to serve on the Mayor’s Strategic Plan Development Work Group. This group will aid in building the vital components of the Mayor’s 2025-2029 Citywide Strategic Plan. Members will represent the values and interests that have been deemed important to the City of Colorado Springs. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24.

Drainage improvement study, annexation underway in Park Vista South Neighborhood

The City of Colorado Springs has scheduled a public information meeting to present information about the Park Vista Drainage Improvements Design Study and Annexation process on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6.p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 4280 Hopeful Drive. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Enterprise, in cooperation with El Paso County, is developing a plan to improve storm drainage in the Park Vista South Neighborhood. The improvements address drainage and flooding issues that historically impacted the Templeton Gap Floodway.

Colorado Springs Airport Launches Hidden Disabilities Program for Travelers

Colorado Springs Airport (COS) announced it will offer travelers with non-visible disabilities an opportunity to travel more easily through the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program. The program is a simple tool for passengers to voluntarily share that they have a disability that might not be immediately apparent, and would need a little extra help, time and understanding while at the airport. Travelers with a non-visible disability can request a Sunflower lanyard at the Airport’s Information Desk.
