The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit is seeking the community’s assistance in locating three individuals wanted for various charges including Forgery, Identity Theft, Mail Theft, and Motor Vehicle Theft. The suspects have been identified at 30-year-old Katelyn Wilson, 30-year-old Mychael Plunkett, and 36-year-old Javier Rivera.
Wilson is suspected of making contact with community members who are selling vehicles via apps (such as Craigslist). When Wilson and the seller meet in person, they will look over the vehicle together and then she will present a fake cashier’s check with a fictitious name to the seller. A bill of sale is completed and then Wilson drives the vehicle away. When the seller takes the cashier’s check to the bank, they then find out it is counterfeit.
After Wilson takes the vehicle, she then drives around stealing mail from mailboxes. Checks that are found are altered and immediately cashed.
The primary suspect in this pattern is Wilson. Detectives have applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for 2 counts of Forgery, Identity Theft, and Motor Vehicle Theft. She recently sustained an injury and is likely wearing a boot on her left foot and using crutches.
Plunkett and Rivera are believed to be primarily involved in the mail theft and cash checking portion of this pattern. Plunkett currently has two warrants for Identity Theft, Forgery, Mail Theft, and Forgery. Rivera currently has one warrant for Identity Theft, and Mail Theft.

Crime Prevention Tips
- If mailing checks, take them to the post office or hand them directly to a mail carrier.
- If selling a vehicle to a stranger, ask to see an ID.
- Be wary if the cashier check is already prefilled out.
- If you want a safe location to make transactions for legitimate sales/purchases, the CSPD substations are open for community use (please follow COVID-19 guidelines and requirements).
- DO NOT ONLY report cases of forgery or mail theft through social media platforms. While social media platforms are great for helping spread information to your neighbors, please report all emergencies to 9-1-1 and non-emergencies to (719) 444-7000.
