On December 29, 2020, at approximately 9:26 P.M., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a shooting call for service in the 1200 block of Potter Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. This male victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. After multiple interviews were completed and the scene was processed for evidence, detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Enrique Joseph Martinez, on the charge of Murder in the second degree. Martinez has been arrested and was transported to the El Paso County Jail where he remains in custody.
On December 30, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the male victim. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Matthew Morrow of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.
Mr. Morrow’s death is the 39th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The CSPD investigated 24 homicides at this time last year.
