On Monday, September 5, 2022, at about 2:50 p.m., members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Gold Hill Division, were dispatched to the 2000 block of Southgate Road regarding a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers learned that a single vehicle had struck a pedestrian riding a bicycle in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Members of CSFD and AMR provided aid to the pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. AMR transported the pedestrian to a local hospital for treatment. Once at the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team responded to the scene to take over the investigation.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased bicycle rider. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the bicycle rider as a juvenile whose name will not be released. This crash is the 37th fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had 36 fatal traffic crashes.
