On Friday, November 27, 2020, at approximately 6:23 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of an automobile/pedestrian crash in the 1200 block of North Academy Boulevard. Despite lifesaving efforts by the Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR, the pedestrian died on scene. The Major Crash Team responded to the scene to assume responsibility for the investigation.

It was determined the pedestrian attempted to cross North Academy Boulevard mid-block (not in a crosswalk) heading westbound, when he was struck by a southbound silver Chevrolet Trax. The driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene. At this time, it does not appear that excessive speed nor impairment on behalf of the driver are factors in the crash.

The pedestrian, who has been identified as is 50-year-old Ramon Grajeda-Gonzalez of Colorado Springs, is the 47th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020. At this time in 2019, there were 41 traffic fatalities. No charges have been filed in this case and the investigation is continuing.
