On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at approximately 5:55 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a crash involving a motorcycle and a Nissan sedan at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Oro Blanco Drive. Witnesses and the Colorado Springs Fire Department provided first aid; however, despite their efforts, a passenger from the Nissan died on scene. The Major Crash Team responded to the scene to assume responsibility for the investigation.
It was determined the Nissan was traveling westbound on Austin Bluffs Parkway and attempted a left hand turn onto southbound Oro Blanco Drive at the solid green light. While doing so, the Nissan was struck by a Yamaha motorcycle which was traveling eastbound on Austin Bluffs Parkway. The front seat passenger, 62-year-old Marion Scott, died on scene as a result of the injuries she suffered during the crash. The other three occupants of the Nissan were not injured. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of those injuries.
No charges have been filed in regard to this crash as the investigation is continuing. Impairment and excessive speed have not been ruled out. Ms. Scott is the first traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2021. At this time last year, there were two traffic fatalities.
