On Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 7:48 PM, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to Highway 83 and Powers Boulevard regarding a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers found that a motorcycle and vehicle had crashed. Officers learned that there were two people on the motorcycle and that the motorcycle and car collided at the intersection. The driver of the motorcycle was deceased on the scene. Members of American Medical Response and the Colorado Springs Fired Department provided emergency medical aid to the passenger of the motorcycle; however, she was also deceased on the scene.
Due to the nature of the crash members of the CSPD Major Crash Team responded and took responsibility for the investigation.
On Friday, June 10, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted autopsies of both deceased individuals from the crash the night prior. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 26-year-old Troy Rodrigues. The passenger of the motorcycle was identified as 23-year-old Morganne Markowski. The investigation is active and ongoing.
These traffic fatalities are the 18th and 19th traffic fatalities of 2022. At this same time last year, there were 19 fatalities in Colorado Springs.
