Third Update:

On June 1, 2022, the victim was identified as 22-year-old Diego Martinez of Colorado Springs. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has ruled this death a homicide.

Second Update

On May 26, 2022, a joint press release was sent out by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Springs Police Department, and the Pueblo Police Department regarding the arrest of 21-year-old Carlos Ulises Diaz for four different homicides including one in Colorado Springs on April 25th. In the press release, the Colorado Springs Police Department requested the assistance of our community in identifying the victim of the April 25th homicide. As a result of many community members coming forward and contacting CSPD, the victim has been identified. He will not be publicly identified until the next of kin is notified.

We want to thank our community for their compassion and assistance. All future updates regarding this homicide will only come from the CSPD PIO.

First Update

On April 30, 2022, the victim of this shooting succumbed to his injuries. The victim has not been identified at this time. This is being investigated as the 18th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2022.  At this time last year, there were nine homicides in the City of Colorado Springs. Additional information will continue to be released as appropriate.

On April 25, 2022, at approximately 10:01 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call of a shooting in the 4300 block of Airport Rd. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that one victim had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for their injuries. Due to the nature of the incident, the CSPD Violent Crimes Section responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation. 

Detectives are actively working to develop information about the victim of this homicide and identify those involved. No arrests have been made and additional information will be released as appropriate.
