On 01/23/2021 at 5:25 A.M., the CSPD Communications received a report of a shooting from the Thrive at Elevation Apartments at 1810 Monterey Rd.

When CSPD officers and Colorado Springs Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, they located an adult female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The adult female was pronounced deceased on scene. The preliminary investigation indicates prior to the shooting, two groups were involved in a disturbance at this location. During the disturbance, an unknown suspect fired at least one round from a firearm, striking the female victim.

Based on the preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. Detectives are in the process of developing information about the incident and those involved. Additional information, to include any information about the suspect(s), will be released as it becomes available.

While the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, the death is being investigated as a homicide.
