Update

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide/Assault Unit has continued the homicide investigation of Ms. Smith that was initiated on November 18, 2020. Detectives have identified a suspect in this case. On Monday, November 30, 2020, detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Ronald Amon Williams Jr., for the charge of Murder in the first degree. The arrest warrant was served on Williams on November 30th while he was in custody for unrelated charges at the El Paso County Jail. This remains an active investigation and further details will be released as appropriate.

Original Release

On November 18, 2020, at approximately 8:19 A.M., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a shooting call for service at the Rodeway Inn located at 520 North Murray Boulevard. When officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult female and an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound, in a room of the hotel. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation.  Detectives have conducted multiple interviews and are continuing the investigation into this shooting incident.

On November 19, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased female. The female was identified as 27-year-old Rebecca Smith of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. Further details will be released as appropriate.

Ms. Smith’s death is the 34th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The CSPD investigated 24 homicides at this time last year.
