On March 28, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsies of the two deceased males from the shooting at 750 Citadel Drive East. The decedents have been identified as 20-year-old Jeremiah Brown and 21-year-old Matthew Westrich, both of Colorado Springs. Mr. Brown’s and Westrich’s deaths were ruled homicides.

Mr. Brown’s and Mr. Westrich’s deaths are the 15th and 16th homicide investigations in the City of Colorado Springs in 2022. The Colorado Springs Police Department investigated five homicides at this time last year.

This continues to be an active and open investigation. Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.

On March 25, 2022, at approximately 10:40 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a shooting in the parking lot of 750 Citadel Drive East (the Citadel Mall). CSPD officers arrived on scene and began a preliminary investigation.

Detectives from CSPD’s Violent Crime Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation into the shooting. It was determined that a large number of people gathered in the Dillard’s/Burlington Coat factory parking lot and two people became involved in an altercation. During this altercation, gunshots were fired, and four individuals were shot. All four individuals were transported by personal vehicles to local hospitals. Of the four individuals shot, an adult male and an adult female received non-life-threatening injuries, the other two adult males succumbed to their injuries.
