Speed Safety Cameras Program

In October 2025, the Colorado Springs Police Department launched new Automated Vehicle Identification System (AVIS) technology in the form of two mobile Speed Safety Camera (SSC) systems. This technology has a proven record of helping to improve roadway safety in other cities around the world.

The utilization of SSCs is a complement to our existing AVIS technology, photo red light enforcement and is just one portion of our traffic enforcement strategy. The SSCs will be deployed in vehicles to areas where there are vulnerable roadway users, with school zones being the top priority. Colorado State Law and City of Colorado Springs Ordinance limit where the SSCs can be deployed to four areas:

  1. School Zones
  2. Roads bordering Municipal Parks
  3. Neighborhoods
  4. Construction zones (when requested)
